  1. Do you have a 2026 update for YT Premium in Australia ? I’ve searched various sites and all seem to say a different amount. All I know is that I’ve been paying $52 pm for a family membership, way more $ than what most are quoting, including what I read here.

    1. The reason that happens is because you are paying $52/month because you subscribed through Apple’s App Store on an iPhone or iPad. Apple takes a 30% cut on in-app purchases, and Google passes that surcharge directly to you (often called the “Apple tax”). The official direct price in Australia is $39.99/month.

Eleni in Australia the Family Membership monthly fee is $39.99 Australian dollars. I’ve just taken this screenshot today 17 September 2026

To fix this and drop the price to $39.99/month, cancel the billing through Apple and resubscribe directly via a web browser. Your playlists, family members, and history will stay completely intact.

Step 1: Cancel the Apple Subscription

Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad.

Tap your name / Apple ID at the top.

      Tap Subscriptions.

Select YouTube (or YouTube Premium) and tap Cancel Subscription.

Your Premium benefits will continue until the end of the current billing cycle.

Step 2: Resubscribe Directly with Google

Once your Apple billing period expires, open a web browser (Chrome, Safari, or desktop) instead of the YouTube app.

      Go to youtube.com/premium

Sign in with your primary family manager Google account.

Select the Family Plan and subscribe using a direct payment method (credit card, debit card, or PayPal).

The charge will update to $39.99 AUD/month, saving you ~$12 every month.

    1. Hi Robert, thank you for your comment as I haven’t updated prices for us Aussies (YouTube Premium had 2 price hikes recently (Family membership went up as well A$39.99/mo)) and is getting bit pricey just to enjoy YouTube. Anyhow, I’ll update the blog post, thank you once again.
