Step 1 Select ‘None’ Default Digital Assistant App
Open “Settings” app on your phone. Then from the search bar on top of the screen, search for “Digital Assistant” and Select “Default Digital Assistant App”
If Gemini is enabled on your device, default Google App would be selected as your android device digital assistant app. Simply Select “None” to disable your Android phone’s digital assistant.
Step 2 Turn Off Gemini
- Open the Settings app on your Android device
- Scroll down and tap on Google App
- Tap on All Services
- Tap on Search, Assistance and Voice
- Tap on Gemini
- You will see an option “Choose your digital assistant from Google” and “Gemini” will likely be selected. To turn it off, press on the link “You can turn off your digital assistant from Google at anytime”
- Select “Turn Off
Now you have disabled Gemini and it will no longer be working on your phone.

You can simply turn off Android phones ability to use “Digital Assistant” by selecting “NONE”. Then simply Turning Off Gemini like so:

How-to Disable Gemini’s Response to ‘Hey Google’ and Voice Match
Imagine that the only annoying thing was Gemini’s ability to respond to your voice commands like “Hey Google” and you just want to disable that only without removing Gemini. You can simply disable that option only like so:
- Open the main "Settings" of your phone
- Locate and Tap "Google"
- Select "All services"
- Select "Search, Assistant and Voice"
- Select "Gemini"
- Select "’Hey Google’ and Voice Match"
- Toggle Off "Hey Google"
- Toggle Off "While Driving"
Google’s AI (Artificial Intelligence) tools and technology by far is the best available, but if you’re not using it, then, disabling and or removing it can improve your device performance as well as usability of your smartphone.
There is NO uninstall button in either place you mention. No trashcan in Playstore, no uninstall button in the app settings (only forcestop and disable).
Hello Mike, same issue was reported by others. Note: if there is NO Google Play Store Uninstall option.

Next: through your “Settings > App” force stop ‘Assistant’ and Disable it.
