Google Search Console Blocked Resources

Google Search Console Blocked Resources

 In SEO

Google Webmaster Tools (also known as Google Search Console) has now introduced a new menu link  but if you explored Webmaster Tools in depth, then you would have seen that this feature was always available in Google Webmaster Tools (under different menu options). So it now in June 2016 Google has decided to give this feature a menu of its own.

How to Fix Google Index > Blocked Resources

First thing to do for fixing these errors is to identify which resources are blocked. You can do this by pressing on the >> arrow icon on each result.

Here you can fetch the web page as Google to see how Google sees the webpage compared to normal visitors seeing the web page. Then, if the blocked resource is on the site that you have control over, then you can either update your robots.txt file to to that resource like this:

www.example.com/ samplepage.php (blocked resource is mycustomjqueryscript.js)

Then place in robots.txt file this
User-agent: Googlebot
Allow: /*mycustomjqueryscript.js

Or, to allow all js (javascript) and css (custom style sheet) file formats (which often are blocked for Google) place this:

User-agent: Googlebot
Allow: /*.js
Allow: /*.css

Video Lesson by RankYa Related to Blocked Resources

These are common ways to allow Google access to blocked resources on your own web hosting, however, if the blocked resources are on external sites (such as Content Delivery Network, or Social Media Sites such as Facebook) then, you really can’t do much about this apart from removing the portion of your web page that includes these resources.

I’m glad you benefited from this blog post by RankYa regarding Google Search Console blocked resources, ideally, all blocked resources should be allowed to Googlebot when the blocked resources are on the site itself

    Hi,

This is my first time to your blog, but I watched your video and fixed my Robots txt file. Thanks for the video, it was extremely easy to follow along with.

Quick question though, once we make those changes, do we need to click on all the blocked resources in Google Webmasters and click on robots.txt fixer for all the blocked urls?

Or do we just make that change and then eventually check back and see if those links on our site eventually become unblocked?

I wasn’t sure what step to take after making those changes to the robots.txt file on my site.

Any advice you can give what steps to take after making those changes would be helpful.

Thanks for sharing these tips, I am still fairly new to using Google Webmasters so I picked up quite a bit from this.

    Have a great day 🙂

    Susan

Hello Susan, great to hear that you now fixed the blocked resources issues shown in Google Search Console, you do not need to do anything else, simply let Google update its records and those blocked resources should be seen by Google as not blocked. Always keep in mind that IF the resource is on your own hosting/website then you can fix this error in Search Console, however, if the blocked resource is on some external site (e.g. Facebook etc.) then you really can’t do anything. Once again, its best to let Google update its records and then double check perhaps in couple of weeks. Please do update us, thanks Susan

Its great to here that you now fixed the issues with Google Search Console Blocked Resources, also, you are correct when you say that you really shouldn’t simply copy and paste code from the internet as it can really have negative effects on a website’s ranking in Google. I try to share sample codes with utmost default settings so that these issues are minimized for WordPress built sites. Thanks for the comment Dalijit

    Sir please help me.
I think google blocked my ads

    https://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js

this is the link I have seen after fetching

    User-Agent: *
    Allow: /ads/preferences/
    Allow: /gpt/
    Disallow: /
    Noindex: /

    this is the robots.txt file

    1. This is how a visitor to your website would have seen the page: (Ads showing)
    2. This is how Googlebot saw the page: (ads not showing)

How i fix it please tell

Of course Google will block your website because you are BLOCKING Google search engine to see your website. To fix it: remove EVERYTHING from your robots.txt file and just have this =

      user-agent:*
      disallow:

    Hello Sir,

I’ve been watching all your videos on youtube and they are great and very well explained.

I just wanted to ask a quick question. I have a website with a lot of pages and products based on Shopify. Google Search Console page of Blocked Resources has been indicating my /cart.js as the blocked resources have been constantly increasing and my organic website traffic is constantly dropping. I’ve recently added Schema app on my website for structured data and now I’ve got more than 500 card.js issue. Shopify argue that the files are protected, these cannot be given to the members to handle etc. etc. Also, Shopify argue that It cannot affect the search results as the card.js files have no value. The fact of the matter is that in my case the organic search results of my website have gone way off since the development of this issue. Prior to this issue the search results were pretty good. Robots.txt Tester of Google Search Console too has been indicating a warning as well as an issue. What would you recommend me to do in this case?

    Thank you in advance.

Naturally, Shopify Wix Squarespace and others will all say things like this “they will even argue that things like this cannot affect the search results” but the fact, is, yes, it can.

I could suggest to you (like to everyone who is using these platforms) to switch to WordPress on self hosted server. There are great deals of VPS you could easily setup WooCommerce and have a better website (the fact is, you can have a successful business moving forward) Mark my words when I say, one way or another to take full advantage of Google, all sites must control their website content. Especially robots.txt file, XML’s and coding of HTML for Structured Data amongst other things. Send us screenshots to see which issues are there for blocked resources in Google Search Console and robots.txt file, so we can reply accordingly

You have to create a robots.txt file. Do you have access to web hosting? Since you are using Yoast SEO plugin, go to tools and you can create robots.txt file. Have you done that?

Because you are using Google translate plugin, which you can’t really do much about because Google owns that file. The only thing to do to avoid Blocked Resources in your case is to “either remove the plugin” or ignore the message. Basically ignore the message
